This cooler is a solid cooler for extended hunting trips. I purchased it this summer and I've hauled a pronghorn, a couple deer, and an elk. I took this elk hunting in Montana and used it right alongside my buddies RTIC 125. That was a good way to compare them. The mammoth is much shorter but slightly longer and has much thinner walls. Weather conditions were very cold so ice retention couldn't be compared. I am not sure if it was the difference between a 2 and 3 year old bull or not but my elk did not completely fit inside my cooler fully boned out with no ice in it and my buddies did fit with a large bag of snow on top to boot. (Wasn't a big deal as we had the meet chilled and conditions were freezing, we had an extra cooler if needed) I could see the thinner walls potentially hindering ice retention on an early season hunt, and I questioned the size difference after this trip although we didn't fill them with water or anything to compare and be sure. Overall this cooler worked well for all applications and can easily fit a quartered mule deer with tons of ice in it. If using for elk hunting I would suggest bringing an extra m cooler to make sure you can get all the meat on ice if needed.
